Fabulous Fitness Friday: My Food Diary

So I made it a point this week, to keep track of what I ate. I tried my best to plan ahead so that I would make better food decisions. And it worked. I went to the Dutch Market and racked up on fruits and veggies. I bought a huge bag of fish from Walmart–I  hate Walmart by the way. To many people and to much stuff every where! Boo!

Anyways…here you have it!

My breakfast this week, went a little something like this, OATMEAL with FRUIT. No sugar added, no milk, just fruit, water, and oatmeal.

Oatmeal with 1 banana, raspberry and boysenberries. The banana and orange is for my afternoon snack if need be.


Trail mix without the chocolate and edamames are the perfect snack!


I am not sure if you eat Edamame’s but these little suckers are so yummy and the health benefits are out of this world. I have been eating them between meals this week.                Check out the benefits below:

Cholesterol free protein that increases the metabolism, shrinks fat cells, fights heart disease, osteporosis and diabetes, high in fiber, essential fatty acids, and a good source of vitamins A and C, calcium, iron, potassium and phosphorus. The fiber makes you feel full longer which helps cut down on calories.

In the morning on some days I made myself a smoothie. I cut up my fruit the night before so that in the morning all I had to do was throw it in the blender.

As for dinner, it was all fish and vegetables. I made some fresh kale with a bit of vinegar, fresh garlic and water.  I love Bobby Flays recipe. I skipped the salt of course.


And I love me some Roasted Brussels Sprouts. I eat them allllllllll the time.  I cut them in half, added a little bit of olive oil, basil, garlic and I squeeze fresh lemon juice over it, tossed it on up and cooked for about 10-15 minutes.

I made some coconut rice with okra–it was delish. I wish I had a picture to show you. I also made a new fish recipe to go along with it. Next week I will share because I am making it again for my husband this weekend!

I also stuck to water and hot tea.

I did better this week on my eating. I also worked out consistently as well!

What you eat is just as important as working out. But if you missed the mark a few times, just get back up and keep going. Making little changes eventually will equal big changes as long as you keep at it!

Still Making it My Own2013

So as you know I have been on this road to cleaning out my closet. It has been a challenge and a very long process. I am half way through it and as I have much more to add to my closet, I am currently out of space on my side so I have to switch sides with my husband. Which annoyed me to no end when I realized that!

I have one bag of clothes to donate and I think I need to go back through and donate a few more things. Currently I have a hamper full of clothes that need hangers and not to mention the clothes in the dirty hamper that need washing and folding. Oh the process! As much as I hate doing this, I know it needs to be done. And I almost had a temper tantrum the other day because I was so OVER IT!  I was so annoyed with folding and hanging up clothes. The crazy thing is I have no idea how I got to this place of overload.


Well of course I am still on the PURGE, and THE EMBRACE. But I have progressed a lot in terms of my closet being organized. It is very organized and everything is in it’s proper place. I did look under my bed and was outraged at how many pairs of shoes I have slid under there, what is really going on!?!

Overall if you haven’t began this process, you really should jump to it. Being organized really does make it easier to figure out what to wear, what to purchase and it gives you peace of mind. For me I wasn’t able to do it overnight, or over a weekend. I just don’t have that kind of time. So I broke my time up, I did a little during the week and on the weekends. It’s been almost a month and I am still working on it. So time can no longer be an excuse, if it needs to be done–JUST DO IT consistently.

As you can see from my pictures, Kimora’s  is my closet inspiration. I remember when I first saw her closet, I was in love! I have always wanted a closet like hers.



At this point I am not able to have a replica of her fabulousness, however I can create something similar in my own way!

What Do You Want to Be?

Every so often I have to stop and recuperate! And bring my mind back in! I have to remember who I am and what I want to accomplish in life aside from being a wife, friend, sister and whatever title I hold. I can’t map out my entire life span in one sitting but I can do set yearly, monthly and daily goals that will give me the life I want. But if I sit and do nothing then I get nothing.

As of lately I have been into setting new goals, writing stuff down and purposefully centering myself in the present. As the seasons are changing, I happen to believe that it has some type of effect on us. Having less sun in the evenings, the trees slowly losing it’s leaves, the cold air keeping us indoors. We can easily start to hibernate and sleep our way through the next couple of months, hindering our goals and zapping our ambition. This may seem a little extreme but trust me, it happens. We catch the “bear” syndrome and it’s a wrap! And November and December becomes the easiest time to store up on fat just like the bears do before the big hibernation!


DON’T GET CAUGHT UP! Stay focused on your 2013 goals, we have less than 2 months left. Do you even remember January and the goals you set for yourself? Did you even accomplish some of them? I honestly don’t even remember what my goals were for this year. All I remember is “wedding”. That was it, I was only focused on that and health and fitness. Everything else took a back burner, even blogging. I did get married and had the wedding I wanted and I did lose some weight and maintained my exercise and healthy eating habits. The wedding is over and as I am still into health and fitness I need to find other areas that need growth!

But as I sit here, I am literally drinking tea and thinking presently in this moment and I am asking myself this question: What do I want to be when I grow up? Seriously Karen, that’s the question you have for yourself. The truth of the matter is, we should always think like this because everyday we should be looking for more ways to GROW UP!


Our goals and ambitions when we follow them and accomplish them means we are GROWING UP! We are doing the things we set out to do. I can’t imagine not having a notebook, or sticky notes, new ideas written down on paper or recipes or events I want to attend or anything like that–those things are a part of the vision I have for my life. And when you set realistic goals and accomplish them it just feels darn good!

My niece already says to me ” I am going to do that when I grow up” yes she is referring to makeup but it’s just the fact that at 3 years old, she is already seeing how she wants to be when she grows up! I just love that about her.

As this post is coming to an end, I want to ask you that simple questions: What do you want to be when you grow up? If you have no idea, empty yourself out! You may be full of someone else’s wants, desires and dreams. This can happen you know! Fill yourself up again, remind yourself of the things you have always wanted. Set some new goals and raise your standard!

My fitness routine always starts on Saturday. Working out over the weekends helps me keep focused for my weekday workouts. I am beyond the 3 days a week. But I had to start some where.

I started out: 3 days a week for 30 minutes and then increased my time after 1 month to 45 minutes. I am now at a complete hour. I do a 15 -20 minute morning workout,not by choice. I have to walk 15 minutes from the metro,  I do it at a fast paced. Two days a week after my 15 minute morning walk I run/walk up 2 flights of steps 2x and then I hit the punching bag for 5 minutes straight.

I feel so much better after I work out and when I don’t I feel guilty. I feel like I cheated myself!

If you need to jump off that “fatty” train ( I did it) then here are a few things that have helped:


My Fitness Pal– This is my everything right now. I love it. When you join a group with like minded folks it really keeps you going. This site really does make a difference in how I eat.


RunKeeper– I love how this records all my morning and afternoon walks. It’s a perfect way to track your pace. My husband uses it when he runs his 8 miles!


Grooveshark– I have a Beyonce playlist titled GYM. It helps me stay motivated!

OMG…this week I missed the mark! I totally ate 2 mini cupcakes at an event last night. I am so ashamed…hmmm…am I…NOPE! Aint that just wrong but it’s the truth! I totally didnt deserve to eat that cupcake but I did. I need to bring my mind all the way back in!

The Closet Autobiography: The Embrace

Hey loves!! Here I am back at it again with my Closet Autobiography Series. My closet is still a work in progress but I am making major leaps! After the PURGE I put all my favorite go to items in the front of my closet on one side. Until I ran out of space. I have to switch sides with my  husband, whom has less clothes than me.

Let me just say purging my closet wasn’t that hard to do, it just took a lot of time. I literally had one rule: If I hadn’t worn it in years, I tossed it. Very simple, right? Since running out of space I have to figure out a creative way to add everything back into my closet. And now that the Purge is complete, I am ready to move on to the next step.

By now you should know what you have in your closet, embrace everything. Organize everything into categories. Pants and Jeans together, blouses together, dresses with dresses, jackets with suit jackets and sweaters with sweaters (the list goes on). Put everything in it’s category. Don’t worry about trying to color coordinate everything right now, do that later on. If you want matching hangers then switch them out later but for now  use what you have to get the job done.

I personally find it easier to get dressed in the morning because I can see everything. And I don’t have a pile of clothes on my closet floor. Before I was stuck wearing the same outfits because I honestly hated going into my closet. Now the possibilities are endless.

My Closet Autobiography is almost finished. I am just glad that I finally did what was necessary, a purge and an embrace. I know exactly what I have without question. And now that I am almost to the end, I can start thinking about the next step, The Atmosphere!

New Concealer: Fake-Up Moisturizing Concealer by Benefit is AWESOME! I love that it conceals and adds moisture. The only downfall to it, is that it comes in 3 shades. I wear it in Deep. But come on, I clearly don’t  have a deep complexion. And the funny thing is they have another amazing product that my girlfriend uses, she is lighter than me and her shade is DEEP.
